Curriculum & Language
All CNNG services operate through the medium of Irish. Irish is always spoken – with the children, with parents and among the workers. Various programs are used, Lonnir, Síolta, Aistear and the Borradh language planning scheme for the full development of the children, including language development. The work program of the services is set out to appropriately meet the language needs of the children in relation to the enrichment and acquisition of the Irish language and to foster and perpetuate the natural use of the Irish language among the children. There is a strong emphasis on the dialect of the area where the service is located.
Aistear
Síolta and Aistear support the learning and development of all children from birth to six years across a range of early childhood settings and through the provision of an appropriate curriculum.
Loinnir
Work Program for Naíonraí na Gaeltachta. This work program has been set out for the complete development of the child, to enrich his Irish language and to do so through fun.
Borradh
Borradh’s aim is to develop language planning tools for Naíonraí na Gaeltachta Teachers. Due to changes in linguistic society and changes in raising a family, children with different levels of Irish are attending Naíonraí na Gaeltachta.
Enriching & Acquiring Language
There are various advantages to bilingualism. International research shows that bilingualism helps a person’s intellectual capacity and awareness.
